Stephen Boutros: <\/b>The most difficult aspect during the wrongful death case is the deposition of the beneficiary because the defense lawyer is trying to create evidence to show that you really didn\u2019t have that close-up relationship with your father or you were a cheating spouse or you were a prodigal son or a prodigal daughter. They\u2019re trying to create the impression that the relationship wasn\u2019t that close by pointing out specific things that happened in your life related to that relationship and relationships are complicated. Anyone\u2019s relationship with their father, mother or spouse has problems because that\u2019s the nature of people.<\/p>\n

Insurance Companies Often Try to Malign the Nature of the Relationship Between the Decedent and the Beneficiary<\/strong><\/p>\n

But it doesn\u2019t mean that you didn\u2019t love them and they\u2019re dead and them being taken from you off this planet permanently is extremely painful. The underlying purpose isn\u2019t just the pain that you feel from your loved ones being wrongfully taken from you; it\u2019s holding the wrong doer, the negligent party accountable for their actions, to hopefully prevent the same thing happening unnecessarily to other people. It\u2019s about the safety of people and it\u2019s about how we value people in our society. The most valuable thing we have in society is people.

Stephen Boutros: <\/b>Yes. Even if they want to mourn privately, that should be respected. Different people have different positions on that. You have some social obligation in your community to hold the wrongdoer responsible for their actions to protect other people, not to just stand by silently and mourn. I understand some people\u2019s need for that but if you\u2019re mourning and experiencing pain because of someone, something that someone or some company or corporation did or didn\u2019t do that they should have, then you\u2019re essentially motivating that person, company or corporation to do it again thinking that they won\u2019t be held responsible.<\/p>\n

Stephen Boutros: <\/b>Corporations or insurance companies have teams of lawyers whose sole job is to settle cases as cheaply as possible or nothing at all. Progressive hazards, emergency response units they act like they\u2019re really interested in helping people immediately, which is just a big corporate nationwide lie. All they\u2019re doing is trying to get people to sign releases for just a small percentage of what their cases are worth before they realize the full extent of their damages or the full extent of what their cases worth. These insurance companies and corporations have teams of lawyers working to settle cases for as cheaply as possible or nothing at all and that\u2019s why it\u2019s not fair and people should level the playing ground with the corporations and insurance companies by hiring a lawyer who\u2019s going to work for truly their best interests.
