Texas Woman Injured In One-Vehicle Accident In Major County
ORIENTA – 72-year-old Verna Bridwell Smith of Dumas, Texas, was involved in a one-vehicle accident in Major County.
The incident took place Friday and Smith was taken to Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City. She was admitted in critical condition with injuries to the head, trunk, arm, and leg.
According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the accident happened at 2:26 p.m. on U.S. 412 about 8 miles west of Orienta.
Smith was driving a 2001 GMC pickup west on U.S. 412 when she went off the road to the left and hit a road sign. The pickup then went back across the highway and hit an embankment and electrical guide wire, rolling half a time, before coming to rest on its top.
76-year-old David Jester Smith of Dumas was a passenger in the vehicle. He refused treatment at the scene.
Lack of sleep and inattention seem to be the cause of the accident.
