25-year-old Sgt. Sean McGregor Vanderwal died due to the life-threatening injuries he sustained in the accident that happened on Sunday.

The soldier died on the accident spot of a two-vehicle crash near Georgetown.

According to Georgetown police Capt. Roland Waits, the accident occurred around 2:20 a.m. when the motor vehicle in which Vanderwal was travelling hit the back of a parked semi-truck. He was the front passenger seat and died on the incident spot.

There were 2 other individuals traveling in the motor vehicle with Vanderwal who were rushed to hospital with minor injuries.

Sean Vanderwal entered active-duty service in 2014.

His father Scott Vanderwal said about him that he was a graduate of Neshannock Junior/Senior High School and California University of Pennsylvania.

The incident is still under investigation.
