BROOKSHIRE, Texas – According to authorities, two people were killed in a head-on crash that took place on I-10 in Brookshire Friday morning.

One of the victims was identified as 43-year-old Jason Hamilton, a 12-year veteran with the Houston Fire Department. Hamilton leaves behind his wife of 25 years and two sons ages 9 and 17. Authorities stated that Hamilton was off duty at the time of the crash.

The accident happened when a driver went over the median from an access road into the westbound I-10 main lanes. A pickup truck and an SUV were involved in the crash.

Serious injuries were reported at the crash scene, so a medical helicopter was called to the scene. I-10 was shut down for several hours before it was reopened.
